At The Ponderosa Estate, we’ve been listening to those families for a long time. And we’re building something in response.
A Dedicated Memory Care Community Is Coming
We are in the process of developing a dedicated memory care community — a purpose-built setting designed specifically for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. This is a significant expansion of what we offer, and we’re approaching it with the same deliberateness we’ve brought to everything else we’ve built.
We’re not ready to announce a specific opening timeline just yet, but we wanted to share what’s coming — and what we’re committed to — for families who are planning ahead.
What We Currently Accept
Right now, The Ponderosa Estate accepts residents in the early to lower stages of memory impairment. We’re equipped to provide warm, attentive care for individuals who have mild to moderate memory challenges but do not yet require the secure, specialized environment of a dedicated memory care unit.
We’re transparent about this because we believe families deserve honest guidance. If someone’s needs are beyond what we can safely and skillfully meet in our current setting, we’ll say so and help point toward better options.
Why We’re Building This
The decision to develop a dedicated memory care community didn’t come from a market analysis. It came from the families we’ve worked with — families who trusted us with a parent’s early-stage memory challenges, experienced what relationship-based, small-scale care can feel like, and then had nowhere to turn as needs progressed.
Watching families navigate that transition — from a place they trusted to an unknown — was hard. We want to be able to walk with families further down that road.
What Makes Memory Care Different
Memory care is not simply assisted living with a locked door. It requires distinct design, specialized programming, specific staff training, and an environmental philosophy built around the particular challenges that dementia presents.
People living with dementia benefit from consistent routines, familiar environments, thoughtful sensory design, activities that connect to long-term memory, and staff trained to respond to behavioral expressions of unmet needs rather than reacting to them.
When we build our memory care community, these principles — not just the operational requirements — will shape every decision.
Our Commitment to the Small-Scale Model
The Ponderosa Estate’s current community houses a maximum of 16 residents. That number is not arbitrary. It reflects a specific belief: that meaningful, relationship-based care is only possible at a scale where every person can be genuinely known.
Our memory care community will preserve that philosophy. We have no interest in building something large for the sake of capacity. For individuals living with dementia, the small-scale model isn’t just preferable — it’s essential.
